Azure NetApp Files

Arpio supports recovery of Azure NetApp Files workloads.

The following resource types are supported:

NetApp Account

Arpio replicates NetApp accounts into the recovery environment.

During initial backup, a replica of the NetApp account is made in the recovery region and subscription, housing the replica Capacity Pool and Volumes. It is stored in the ArpioRecoveryData resource group.

During recovery, a replica of the original NetApp account is created in the recovery region/subcription within the customer's original resource group.

Automatic Dependency Selection

The following resources are automatically selected into recovery points when a NetApp account is selected:

  • Capacity Pools contained within the account
  • Volumes contained within the account
  • Virtual networks used by child Volume(s)
  • Subnets used by child Volume(s)

Capacity Pool

Arpio replicates Azure NetApp Capacity Pools into the recovery environment.

During initial backup, a replica of the Capacity Pool is made in the replication region, in the ArpioRecoveryData resource group and the backup NetApp account.

At recovery time, a Capacity Pool is made in the recovery environment from this backup, located inside the recovery copy of the parent NetApp account.

Translated Attributes

The following attributes are translated during replication:

Attribute Translation Method
NetApp account ID NetApp account reference translated to recovery NetApp account

Automatic Dependency Selection

The following resources are automatically selected into recovery points when an Azure NetApp Capacity Pool is selected:

  • NetApp account that owns the Capacity Pool
  • Volumes contained within the Capacity Pool
  • Virtual networks used by child Volume(s)
  • Subnets used by child Volume(s)

Volume

Arpio replicates Azure NetApp Volumes into the recovery environment.

During initial backup, Arpio creates a replica of the volume in the ArpioRecoveryData resource group in the recovery environment. It is located inside the replica of the parent NetApp account and the replica of the parent Capacity Pool. This replica is the target of a replication relationship with the source volume. It is only used for data transfer and is not accessible by your application.

At recovery time, Arpio creates a new volume in the recovery resource group. This volume's data is consistent with the recovery point.

Translated Attributes

The following attributes are translated during replication:

Attribute Translation Method
Subnet ID delegated subnet reference translated to recovery subnet
Capacity Pool ID Capacity Pool reference translated to recovery Capacity Pool

Automatic Dependency Selection

The following resources are automatically selected into recovery points when an Azure NetApp Volume is selected:

  • NetApp account that owns the Volume
  • Capacity Pool where the Volume is located
  • Virtual network used by the Volume
  • Subnet used by the Volume

Key Limitations

  • Azure NetApp Files cross-region replication only works between a fixed set of region pairs. ANF resources can only be added to Arpio applications that are configured with one of the supported region pairs.
  • We do not currently support Active Directory for Azure NetApp Files.
